Kayla Pearen is a Registered Psychologist and holds a Bachelor of Arts Psychology Honours Degree and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology Degree.
Kayla offers a solution-focused approach but also understands that during difficult times in life, it can feel impossible to find hope. Kayla draws techniques from the four pillars of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT): mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Kayla also uses mindfulness-based techniques as well as those from Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
Kayla likes to use the metaphor of a cooking recipe to explain her view of therapy. All clients are unique, and there is no single recipe that suits everyone. Kayla values collaboration and encourages clients to play an active role in creating their therapeutic “recipe” along the way. Kayla believes that clients enter therapy with the ingredients (ie. skills and strengths) needed to achieve their desired goals and that exploring these ingredients together can lead to transformation.
Outside of work, Kayla loves swimming, hiking, camping and trying out new craft projects.
Kayla looks forward to seeing you soon!
