Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology and a PhD in Community Health Sciences. She is a Registered Psychologist and has training in Hakomi, a mindfulness – centered somatic psychotherapy , Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Treatment for Trauma, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ( EMDR) and is working on a Sexual Health Certification through University of Alberta. In addition to private practice, Jennifer and her sister run a company that provides services to children with disabilities and their families, teaches with Athabasca University and is a research project coordinator at University of Calgary. She loves hiking, traveling, books and her dogs!
Areas of Knowledge and Interest
Jenn work with adults who have experienced childhood and developmental trauma, complex trauma, dissociation and relational trauma due to infidelity and those struggling with out- of -control sexual behavior/”sex addiction.” She is passionate about sex education and sexual health for all stages of development. She combines her experiences in dog rescue with her education to support individuals who are caring for a palliative animal, or have lost a pet. Based on education and personal experience, she has developed a special passion for working with individuals who are working in stressful, high pressure environments (e.g., academia, medical field) and are looking for coping tools to manage chronic stress, anxiety and burnout.
Beliefs and Values
Jennifer’s therapeutic work and clinical supervision are rooted in a strengths based and person-centered approach. She focuses on tapping into peoples’ capacity for change, and assists individuals to ‘re-author’ their life story. Jennifer approaches individuals from a holistic, non-judgmental standpoint, and aims to respect all beliefs and social differences.
Jennifer employs a multifaceted approach to best support the unique, individual needs of each client. She largely draws on psychoeducation, solution focused and and narrative techniques to develop functional goals and strategies with her clients. Drawing, journaling, inner child work, HeartMath®, Rewind Technique, mindfulness, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and bibliotherapy are often used to help clients process their experiences and/or increase coping.

January 2021 update – please note, Serenity Now Wellness, has no current opportunities for provisional psychologists (for at least 1.5 years). Jenn provides external supervision but is currently full till Fall 2022. Jenn does not currently provide supervision for practicum students.
