Andrea holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and a Master of Science in Educational Psychology with a specialization in School and Applied Child psychology from the University of Calgary. She is a Registered Provisional Psychologist with training and experience in psycho-educational assessments and intervention, social skills interventions including certification in the Program for the Enrichment and Education of Relational Skills (PEERS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and crisis intervention. In addition to private practice, Andrea works as a school psychologist in a specialized elementary school and is the clinical coordinator/facilitator of the PEERS program for teens with Autism Spectrum Disorder at the University of Calgary. She loves hiking, snowshoeing, barre classes, and spending time with family and friends.
Areas of Interest and Knowledge
Andrea is passionate about working with children and teens who are experiencing learning, behavioral, and mental health challenges. She has over 5 years of experience working in both homes and schools providing intervention for children with developmental disabilities. Her training in school and child psychology has provided her with a strong understanding of child development and strategies to promote academic achievement, positive behavior and mental health. Additionally, after working as a case coordinator in domestic violence where she provided crisis intervention and facilitated healthy relationship programming, Andrea developed a special interest in supporting children and teens who are experiencing interpersonal difficulties (e.g., unhealthy relationships, bullying, difficulties with peers, family conflict).
Andrea’s area of specialty includes school concerns, emotional regulation, managing anxiety, social skills and friendship training, interpersonal relationships, positive behavior support, and building coping skills.
Beliefs and Values
Andrea believes strongly in the importance of relationship-based practice and prioritizes developing a supportive, collaborative, and understanding approach with her clients. She operates from a strength-based perspective where she recognizes that all clients have important strengths that can be built upon to foster positive change and resilience. Andrea draws upon a variety of therapeutic approaches and developmentally appropriate techniques to best support the client’s unique needs and presentation.
Please note: Andrea works with children ( age 7 – 18). She can provide online or telephone counselling when appropriate for the circumstance.
