I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor and an International Credentialed Sandtray Therapist who holds a Bachelors Degree and a Master of Arts in Counselling.
I believe that each client has the capacity to shape their world and that this begins with the internal world. My therapeutic approach most commonly incorporates aspects of Parts work as developed by Richard Schwarz through Internal Family Systems Therapy (as made recently popular with the Inside Out movies), and I specifically utilize images/visualizations and grounding techniques to facilitate powerful moments of insight. I also understand that the body holds information that is not always accessible through language, which is why right brain engagement is such a significant component of my work especially with Sandtray, creating the avenue to take what is otherwise implicit and make it explicit.
I really like using the analogy of organizing a closet to describe the therapeutic process. The clutter and chaos of our lives cannot be properly dealt with if not first taken out and looked at. Decisions can then be made about what is most needed, whether and how certain areas of our lives require a clean-up, possibly a repair or in some cases even to be discarded altogether.
The task can feel overwhelming, which understandably causes hesitation and is exactly why professional support is part of the journey. I am passionate about helping my clients achieve their goals, coming to a place of internal strength and developing their authentic selves. It is my privilege and great honour to support clients as they shift from surviving to thriving.
I tailor my approach to individual client needs, knowing that there is no One Size Fits All when it comes to healing or personal wellness. My training is an especially creative and playful way to see things differently and to rediscover hope.
I have been working as a counsellor for the past ten years primarily with clients who have left
abusive relationships, and prior to that worked with marginalized populations at risk. Regardless of your background, I would be incredibly honoured to walk alongside you on your journey.
