Sharon Stopforth, MSW, RSW is a Certified Integrative Body Psychotherapist, holds a Masters degree in Clinical Social Work, and is currently working on her Ph.D. to further research in the field of Body Psychotherapy. Sharon has been a counsellor for the past 10 years specializing in anxiety, depression, addictions, trauma, and abuse.
Sharon philosophy is to include the body as well as the mind in therapy integrating body, mind, emotions, and spirit. Sharon operates from the premise that human beings are unique energy systems and this energy is the form and expression of our aliveness. Feelings and expression are prime components of healthy functioning and Sharon uses breath and movement to establish the healthy flow of energy in the body. Sharon believes that to have lasting success in the treatment of psychological pain, we need to recognize that our being is grounded in the body. When aliveness in the body is reawakened, one can experience an intensified sense of self-authenticity that can be expressed through relationships with others, leading to higher levels of personal fulfillment and intimacy.
